GREEN JUICE

Can you hear the call of the wild? Heroes and heroines alike, yes you should all be drinking it! Green juice. At this time of the year, when the wild edibles are so fresh, powerful, and abundant, it is very easy to add some wild edibles to your juices or smoothies. This is the healing power of Mother Earth. When the new shoots are forming, the plant has sent a whole lot of potential energy into the shoot for it to be able to build the new plant parts and enable new growth. And if you like us, have the opportunity to pick clean, wild edibles in your immediate surroundings, then you get the ultimate plant power from totally fresh produce. Store bought can never rival this on account that it has to be harvested, then shipped, packaged, then more shipping or storage involved before it hits the shelves in your local shop. By then it could be as much as 3 weeks old…. Remarkably enough that is still good, but needless to say it is not the ultimate! So if you have the chance to harvest around you, then go for it!

NB: DO YOU KNOW YOUR PLANTS?

This is a word of caution though. Many plants have very poisonous lookalikes. You need to be 100% certain that you know what you are adding into your juice, smoothie, or any food in general. Google is a great friend. Stay safe always. Period!

OUR FAVORITE GREEN JUICE

SOME GREAT WILD EDIBLES TO START WITH ARE DANDELIONS, DAISIES, GROUND ELDER, PLANTAINS, SORREL LEAVES, CLOVER, AND DOCK. MY GARDEN IS ALWAYS ABUNDANT IN PEPPERMINT SO YOU WILL SPOT IT IN THE PHOTO TOO

The thing with wild edibles, because of their potency, you do not need to add more than a handful to your juice, and in that way it will not overpower the tastebuds. You still can really enjoy the fruit flavours of your juice or smoothie, while at the same time you are indulging your health. Obviously this is as important for men as for women. I always get a kick out of seeing my 3 sons devouring a glass of green juice. Then I feel my job as a mother is accomplished! And always choose organic produce for your foods when possible.

This our favourite recipe, that we come back to again and again

  • 4-8 green Apples
  • 1-4 stalks of Celery
  • 1 Lime peeled
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 4 stalks of Peppermint
  • 1-2 handfuls of your chosen greens

One glass of this every day, and you and your family will be golden, and everyone else around will be “green” with envy! Enjoy
